Miss World 2010 - Day 1 in Beijing

Miss World 2009 winner - Gibraltar - Kaiane Aldorino

Chopsticks, green tea and bicycles are just three of the instant impressions of China, according to the 120 Miss World contestants on their first days in Beijing.

The national representatives arrived on 1 October to see a holidaying Beijing bedecked in bunting and red lanterns to celebrate the 61st anniversary of China’s founding.  This all added to the party atmosphere as the young women got to know their new friends and start to settling in at the start of their month-long tour of China.
Even though they have just arrived in Beijing, the representatives have been meeting media and talking of their experiences so far.  “When we drove from the airport, it was interesting to see such a mix of modern and ancient buildings,’ said Panama.  “I look forward to having chance to see more of this great city.”
Macedonia commented on Beijing’s famous love of bicycles.  “It’s good to see so many people riding bikes around the city,’ she said.  “It’s a very healthy lifestyle that more people could learn from.”

Martinique enjoyed getting to grips with chopsticks.  “Some of the girls have used them before but they can be quite a challenge,’ she said.  “It’s fun to try though and I’m sure we’ll all be quite good by the end of the month.  The food here is delicious!”
Apart from filming with international media and meeting new friends, the contestants have been getting to grips with their schedule and enjoying some of the wonderful Chinese fashions that they will wear in a forthcoming show.
In coming days, they will visit the Great Wall of China and theBeijing’s iconic Olympic Stadium, before heading to Ordos in Inner Mongolia.
